Floral Fever

I've really been enjoying the nice weather lately, and I can't help but notice all of the beautiful blooms around town. Flowers always make me smile, and they make a great "happy" or surprise for any occasion - a simple hello, good luck, get well soon, thinking of you or thanks... the list goes on and on.

Below I've posted some of the floral arrangements that I have done or received in the past to brighten the home, to let someone know I'm thinking about them or for special occassions to spice up the table. Enjoy!

These last 2 photos are a before (left) and after (right) of the springtime arrangements at my front doors. The Super Bloom is really working!

I hope everyone is having a wonderful Memorial Day weekend so far!

Going Gaga for Glass!

I've been on the lookout for new and refreshing lighting and recently ran across these amazing glass lamps, sconces, pendants and even accessories! They are from Tracy Glover and offer a modern twist with a pop of color....playful yet sophisticated. I hope I can find a home for one of these in the future. I just love them!

Playroom Project

One of my recent projects is transforming a bonus room into a playful and fun room for 2-1/2 year old twin girls. Keeping budget and functionality in mind, a scheme has finally come together! An antique settee belonging to the mother's grandmother will be reupholstered in sweet and girly fabrics, and monogrammed beanbags will provide comforable lounging in the TV corner. The room will have an "art center" with a table and chairs, and oversized bulletin boards will be hung on the wall for the girls' artwork. A reading nook will also be created along with storage for the many toys. Above is a collage of some of the concepts that will be incorporated, and I will continue to keep you posted on the progress of the space.

Here's to you Mr. and Mrs. Eames...

Another busy week is approaching and tonight was the perfect way to wind down. Collin, my husband, served me grilled steak and asparagus alongside boiled potatoes and bread with oil and balsamic vinegar (a favorite of ours since honeymooning in Italy)...yum! For dessert, I made Roasted Banana Cinnamon Rolls - a recipe from one of my favorite food sites - Picky Palate. I'd been dying to try these, and they were delicious! You can find the recipe here.

Moving on...

I want to pay tribute to a long time classic in the furniture world - the Herman Miller Eames Molded Plastic Side Chair. I absolute love this piece! It is so versatile and can pair with traditional and contemporary schemes. The chair was designed in the 1940's by Charles and Ray Eames, husband and wife, and was the first industrially manufactured plastic chair. Today, it is a long-standing statement in design and you can choose from several colors, base options and chair styles - from armless to my personal favorite, the rocker. It gets even better - it's eco-friendly too. Ahhh...good work Charles and Ray!

What's your color character?

Color - it's one of my favorite topics! Whether it's bold and daring you love, a splash of contrast you relish or a more neutral palette you crave - it's perfectly beautiful. One of my favorite things about design is seeing the color character in others. You may be thinking..."but it depends on my mood" - yes, this can be true! Just go with what feels right and makes you smile - you will never be disappointed. So what's your color character?

I'm diving in!

Yes, I'm hooked - hooked on reading blog after blog after blog. What can I say? It's so very entertaining - and inspiring!

As I have become a fond follower of many design-based sites and blogs, I've yearned to have my own...so here goes. Working as an interior designer, I'm constantly inspired by the world around me, and I plan to write about the many layers of living - design, art, food and my favorite things.

Thank you for visiting my "public journal" of sorts. I hope to give you a little entertainment and much inspiration...happy reading!
